QinetiQ North America announced today that it has been awarded a multi-year Ocean Acoustics Support contract to provide scientific expertise and additional development capabilities to the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). The total five-year contract value is $7.7 million covering a base and four one-year options.
The contract is in response to an NRL Broad Area Announcement that covers a broad range of products and services related to the prediction of the environmental effects on underwater acoustics performance for threat detection and the Navy’s operational underwater mission.
Tasks include initiatives such as predicting acoustic detection performance probabilities in differing areas through a “performance surface,” projecting the effects of underwater features on acoustic performance and resultant naval strategies, implementing new algorithms and incorporating new environmental data sources and measurements into the overall acoustic models, and transfer of the multi-dimensional capability to NAVOCEANO’s acoustic prediction models.
The award will continue existing contract support of the NRL Stennis Space Center Detachment research and modeling and will be performed by QinetiQ North America’s Ocean Science and Technology division based at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.
“This is one more instance of the sustained commitment to advancements in defense science and technology that QinetiQ North America provides to the United States military and other federal agencies,” noted Dr. William Ribich, President of QinetiQ North America’s Technology Solutions Group. “
