LONDON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- France's state-owned nuclear power giant is having new safety instrumentation, control, technologies and systems by Rolls-Royce installed on 20 reactors.

Areva said the instrumentation and systems to be provided by Britain's Rolls-Royce under a $325 million contract are part of a third round modernization program that involves 20 nuclear reactors managed by Electricite de France.

Each reaction is has a capacity of 1,300 megawatts.

Kyocera Corp. of Japan will provide 1 million solar panels to Thailand’s Solar Power Holdings Co., a company official said today.

The Kyoto-based company will supply the solar panels for 34 locations in Thailand with a total capacity of 204 megawatts, Sanae Iwasaki, a Kyocera spokeswoman, said by phone. The company will deliver the panels within four years, she said.

The order is valued at as much as 40 billion ($485 million), the Nikkei newspaper reported earlier. Iwasaki declined to comment on the value or when the company won the order.

Turkey on Wednesday agreed to let Russia build and own a $20 billion nuclear power plant in a deal that opens a new page in Russia’s global expansion in the industry.

Sergei Kiriyenko, head of Rosatom, the state nuclear corporation, signed the agreement to build four reactors on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast during a visit by President Dmitry Medvedev to the country.

China picked Toshiba Corp.'s Westinghouse Electric Co. for the biggest international nuclear reactor contract in history, trumping Areva SA for a project worth about $5.3 billion.

Westinghouse will build two reactors at Sanmen in Zhejiang province and two at Yangjiang in Guangdong, the U.S. Department of Energy said. U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman and Ma Kai, head of China's National Development and Reform Commission, signed the agreement in Beijing today.

TAQA Arabia, an Egyptian firm, has signed a $1b, deal with Chui, a local firm to develop hydropower projects in Uganda.

Taqa Power Africa, a partnership between Taqa Arabia, a subsidiary of Citadel Capital and Chui, owned by businessman Charles Mbire, will design, construct, operate and maintain small-and-medium size power plants that will add about 200MW to the power grid in the next five years.

However, Taqa Power has not yet identified the sites for the projects, nor received operating licences.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd's subsidiary TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn Bhd (TNB Remaco) today signed an RM117 million long-term parts management contract with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. Under the three-year contract, Mitsubishi will supply new spare parts worth about RM107 million to the Tuanku Ja'afar Power Plant in Port Dickson, said TNB vice president, generation division, Mohd Nazri Shahruddin. TNB in 2005 installed two units of the Mitsubishi M701F gas turbines under a rehabilitation project at the plant.

Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has signed a $91.86 million contract with the Montenegro government for the construction of a 50-megawatt wind park in the Adriatic state.

The planned 50-megawatt wind park at Krnovo, west of Podgorica is also been considered for expansion. The government hopes to add 22 megawatts to its present capacity.

Montenegro has reportedly stated that it will issue licenses for wind farms with a total capacity of 100 megawatts by 2025. Montenegro has imports one third of its annual power needs and has not invested much in power generation.
