TUCSON, Ariz., Dec. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Missile Defense Agency awarded Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) a $241 million contract modification for continued engineering design and development work on the Standard Missile-3 Block IIA.

The SM-3 Block IIA is a co-development effort between the U.S. and Japan and the cornerstone of phase three of the administration's Phased Adaptive Approach. The SM-3 Block IIA's larger rocket motors and advanced kinetic warhead will allow for a greater defended area, protecting both the U.S. and its allies from ballistic missiles.

HAIFA, Israel, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Israel's Elbit Systems reports it will supply the Israeli Ministry of Defense and an unidentified European army with light-weight weapon stations.

The weapons stations are to be installed on armored vehicles.

The Israeli award, worth $11 million, is for development and initial procurement as part of an upgrade process of the Israel military's lightweight weapons arsenal through which 7.62mm, 12.7mm and 40mm LWS are to be designed for installation on armored personnel carriers and armored fighting vehicles.

LINKOPING, Sweden, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army and the U.S. Special Operations Command have jointly ordered 84mm recoilless rifles from Saab of Sweden.

The order is worth $31.5 million and is the first from the Army for the man-portable Carl-Gustaf system.

"This is very positive and it further proves the capability of the Carl-Gustaf system," said Tomas Samuelsson, senior vice president and head of Saab's Dynamics business area. "It also shows the high level of trust our customers have for the system."

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Saab of Sweden reports it has a received a $23.9 million ammunition order from Australia for the man-portable Carl-Gustaf M3 weapon system.

The order from the Australian Defense Materiel Organization is for 84mm Carl-Gustaf ammunition.

"This shows the high level of trust Australia has for the Carl-Gustaf system," said Tomas Samuelsson, head of Saab's Dynamics business area. "It is a strategic and important contract securing production as well as contributing to further development of the system."

Rheinmetall Nitrochemie has won an exclusive deal to provide the British military with propellant systems for ammunition and powder.

The order is estimated at $291.8 million with a 10-year duration.
