Wacky Technology Wednesday: Are Mushrooms the New Plastic?

Our far from wacky, but yet amazing technology comes from Eben Bayer this week. In his recent TED talk he discussed his plan and operation to make mushrooms the new plastic. Because plastic items, more specifically Styrofoam, takes a large amount of energy to make and has numerous disposal issues, Bayer's operation has begun using parts of the mushroom mixed with different agricultural by products to create a completely conventional synthetic material. This idea can not only revolutionize the shipping and packing industry but can contribute to a cleaner future for our planet.
