Wacky Technology Wednesday: Fuel Cell Charging Device
Aug 11th
Horizon is now taking pre-orders for the MiniPak, HydroSTIK, and HydroFill products all which are alternative energy solutions which offer electricity for mobile devices in a greener way. Horizon is a team of globally based entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers from around the world who joined together to introduce commercially viable, clean hydrogen fuel cell power. They look to eliminate mankind’s reliance on carbon based fuels in favor of clean, low-cost energy for all people.
The MiniPAK uses a passive air-breathing fuel cell and a solid state hydrogen storage unit.
The HydroFILL can take old water, split the hydrogen atoms from the oxygen ones and convert the hydrogen into power.
The HydroSTIK is a fuel cartridge used with the MiniPAK which contains some hydrogen in a solid-state.
The U.S. Post Office Goes Green, So Can You!
Mar 11th
Starting in 2010 The United States Postal Service will begin “a year long pilot program of electric mail trucks in the Washington area”. Because the post office has one of the largest fleets of vehicles they are looking for a way to revamp their 20+ year old mail delivery trucks. The Global Innovation Commons provides technology for people to change their energy supply not only for vehicles but in every aspect of their life. Fuel Cell Unveiled…
Mar 5th
Bloom Energy has spend over nine years developing technology for a fuel cell that “can generate energy by combining air and a wide rage of fuels without going through the process of combustion”. The Silicon Valley tech firm believes that this could change the way that the clean technology industry goes about business. However the Global Innovation Commons has the same technology in open source which can be used today! For more on Bloom Energy’s initiative click Here..
For more on the technology which could be deployed today look into the Global Innovation Commons.
Open Hardware Hydrogen Car
Feb 19th
40 Fires Foundation can be found HERE:

“The first project hosted by 40 Fires is design of the Hyrban, an urban vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The vehicle has been designed with energy efficiency as the primary goal, while still meeting safety, reliability and performance standards. The starting point for the Hyrban is the designs which have been contributed to 40 Fires by Riversimple LLP. These will be made available on this site over the next few months. Riversimple has already built a technology demonstrator based on these designs and is working towards a production prototype…the goal of the project is to make the car as open-source as possible”

Hydrogen Cars: A Vehicle Of The Near Future!
Feb 3rd
Riversimple has developed a hydrogen fuel cell powered car. By using an unconventional business model and releasing the car’s designs under an open source license, this small United Kingdom based company wants to promote open source technology being that “open source allows [developing] countires to build their own technological capacity with out having to be liable for any cash fees to the first world”. (Hugo Spowers- Project Lead). By creating an entire open source project the company has decided to not sell but lease the vehicles creating a world wide opportunity for change over the next ten years.
